	Around 8:15 p.m. convicted criminal, Demitrius Newbill, entered the Pasteleria Panaderia bakery in Waukegan, Ill. Newbill’s hand was tucked under his shirt as he asked for a paper and pencil which he used to write, “I have a gun. Give me all the money.” The owner gave Newbill the money in the cash register, as well as all of the employees’ phones after Newbill made a second demand. As Newbill backed out of the store he made a move that looked like he was going for his gun. The store owner retrieved a .38-caliber revolver from behind the counter and fired at Newbill, striking him. Police apprehended Newbill at the scene and after an interrogation the criminal confessed to the robbery as well as to claiming he was armed. Newbill has a previous conviction for robbery from 2003. The owner of the bakery holds a current Illinois firearm owner’s identification card.

CBS 2 Chicago: Number Of Women Buying Handguns Increasing

Chicago (CBS) - Local gun shop owners say they're seeing an increase in the number of women shoppers right now. The reasons, they say, are many, including the downturn in the economy and violence on the street.

According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, about 48 percent of people taking their first handgun seminars this year happen to be women. CBS 2's Pamela Jones reports on the growing trend.

Chicago Tonight Episode: Supreme Court Challenge of Chicago's Handgun Ban

Chicago Tribune: Supreme Court to hear challenge to Chicago gun law

The Supreme Court set the stage for a historic ruling on gun rights and the 2nd Amendment by agreeing today to hear a challenge to Chicago's ban on handguns.

At issue is whether state and local gun-control ordinances can be struck down as violating the "right to keep and bear arms" in the 2nd Amendment.

A ruling on the issue, due by next summer, could open the door to legal challenges to various gun control measures in cities and states across the nation.

The case also will decide whether the 2nd Amendment protects a broad constitutional right, similar to the 1st Amendment's right to free speech or the 4th Amendment's protection against unreasonable searches and seizures.

Burglary suspect shot by homeowner dies

A man police described as a burglary suspect who was shot by a homeowner Monday morning in the South Shore neighborhood has died, authorities said this morning.

Maurice Smith, 45, of the 2900 block of East 81st Place, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead at 5:30 p.m., according to a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Smith and another unknown suspect were attempting to burglarize a home in the 7100 block of South Coles Avenue when the homeowner caught them and opened fire, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez.

The other suspect fled the scene, Perez said. The homeowner has not been charged in the incident, Perez said. Police are continuing their investigation. --Staff report

FEARFUL ILLINOIS GUN GRABBERS PLANNING NOVEMBER ONSLAUGHT AGAINST YOUR GUN RIGHTS

Obama's recent slide in the polls has Illinois gun grabbers very worried. They are afraid that, when the smoke clears after the 2010 general elections, there will be a gun-friendly guy in the Governor's Mansion and that their lead in the Illinois General Assembly will be cut dramatically. The gun grabbers know that, if this happens, their campaign to obliterate your right to keep and bear arms will come to a screeching halt.

Information gained by the ISRA from inside the gun control movement reveals that the gun grabbers see the November 2009 Veto Session as their last chance to ram their draconian gun control measures through the Illinois General Assembly. Our information reveals that they are frantically constructing a package of gun control bills having provisions that include:

• Bans and confiscations of semiautomatic rifles and shotguns.

• Bans and confiscations of handguns that do not possess certain “safety” mechanisms.

• Regulations on gun shops that would effectively drive the shops out of business.

• Licensing and registration of all privately held guns, with license fees ranging from $75 to $150 per gun, per year.

• Expensive “arsenal licenses” for all persons owning more than 2 guns or possessing more than 50 rounds of ammunition.

• Home storage regulations that would make it illegal for you to display your guns or access them in a time of emergency.

• Mandatory $1 million liability insurance policies for gun owners.

• And more . . .

The gun grabbers plan to import gun control activists from places such as San Francisco, Boston, and New York City to “muscle” Illinois legislators into passing these attacks against your right to keep and bear arms.

The ISRA will do everything within its power to fight off these renewed infringements on your rights. But we need your help. To ensure that your rights are defended, the ISRA must raise $200,000 by November 1, 2009. That is a lot of money, but it is what we need to raise in order to keep pro-gun lobbyists on the floor of the Capitol preserving and protecting your rights.

The bottom line is this, if we cannot raise the money we need to keep our lobbyists in the capitol, you will lose your gun rights. Plain and simple – November will either be your “D-Day,” or it will be your “Waterloo.” Without your generosity, we will fail in November 2009.

In light of the United States Supreme Court's decision concerning the D.C. handgun ban (District of Columbia v. Heller) the ACLU of Nevada considers it important to clearly state its position regarding the right to bear arms. The Nevada ACLU respects the individual's right to bear arms subject to constitutionally permissible regulations. The ACLU of Nevada will defend this right as it defends other constitutional rights.  This policy was formulated by our afilliate Board in light of both the U.S. Constitution and the clearly-stated individual right to bear arms as set out in the Nevada Constitution's Declaration of Rights.
